Job Summary:
Target, fire, and hold weapons used to destroy enemy positions, aircraft, and vessels. Field artillery crew members mainly use guns, cannons and howitzers in ground combat operations, while air defense artillery crew members mainly use missiles and rockets. Naval artillery crew members mainly use torpedoes and missiles fired from ships or submarines. These include examining, inspecting and storing ammunition, rockets, and torpedoes; performing preventive and routine maintenance of weapons and related equipment; developing and maintaining radio and wire communications; and operating weapons aiming, firing, and launching computer systems.

Responsibilities:
- Manage staff and weapons activities to destroy enemy positions, aircraft and ships.
- The tasks include planning, targeting and coordinating the tactical deployment of field artillery and air defense artillery missile systems units; directing the establishment and operation of fire control communications systems; targeting and launching intercontinental ballistic missiles; directing the storage and handling of nuclear ammunition and components; overseeing the security of arms storage.
- Job training for cannon crew members includes 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 7 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT).
- Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part is spent on the field under simulated combat conditions.
- Instructions include basic military skills and critical combat survival skills; field artillery duties in the howitzer section, identification of howitzers and ammunition handling techniques, fuze setting, charge preparation, loading and firing of howitzers; and maintenance and communication training.
