Job Summary:
Artillery officers are in command with the Army. Together with members of the Armor, Infantry and Combat Engineering Regiments, they are part of the Combat Arms Team and provide indirect fire support, air defense and surveillance and target acquisition in combat. When working part-time or casual full-time, the Artillery Officers usually serve with the Artillery Units.

The Artillery Officer may be called upon to serve in any kind of terrain–Arctic tundra, tropical jungle, desert, mountains, urban complex–and in any kind of climate. Artillery officers are deployed overseas in operational missions and in support of civil authorities in cases of national emergency. Initially, one of the five Artillery Regiments was assigned:

Qualifications:
- Upon enrollment, you will start basic officer training in Leadership and Recruit School for 12 weeks. Topics covered include general military experience, management values, basic gun handling rules and procedures, and first aid.
- Opportunities will also be provided for the use of these newly acquired military skills in training exercises involving force protection, field training, navigation and leadership.
- A rigorous fitness program is also a vital part of basic training.
- Basic training is provided in English or French and successful completion is a prerequisite for further training.
- You may be given official second-language training following basic officer training.
- Training can take between two and nine months to complete, depending on your skill in your second language.
- After basic training, you will go to the Infantry School at the Combat Training Center
- In addition to learning the skills required of all Combat Arms Soldiers, you can draw on the leadership training you have received in basic officer training, including more advanced arms handling, field-craft and section-level tactics.
