In this position, repairs, stone settings, and inspections would be carried out.
Responsibilities:
- Examines development limits on jewelry, recognizes gems and addresses constraints on gemstones.
- Proceeds with simple jewelry repairs using all the necessary precautions to complete the work.
- Performs miscellaneous basic repairs without assistance and starts intermediate level repairs on karat-gold and platinum under the guidance of the instructor (i.e. tightening or removing stones in different setting styles, straightening posts, re-weaving / braid string, various changes using hand tools and/or welding, etc.).
- Performs simple welding techniques without assistance for measuring and reshaping rings, chain and clasp repairs, and miscellaneous sterling silver and karat-gold.
- Performs simple prong settings of 4 and 6 prong heads with round stones under training guidance.
- Performs simple welding techniques for LASER.
- Applies to all types of surface finishes (florentine, powder, mizzy, etc.) using polishing wheels, brushes, sandblasting, etc.
- Organizes work on a due date basis and ensures a clean work environment on a daily basis.
- Polishes jewelry during the various stages of the repair process using flex shaft, polishing lathe, various cleaners, steamers, etc.
- Rotates as a jeweler in a pod shop and performs various jeweler duties.
- Answers Associate queries about needed repairs, work costs, work difficulty
- Reviews of incoming work envelopes obtained for repair, inventory, assessment, engraving, etc. for complete directions, type and amount of work necessary, fees and completion date. Verifies the product in the envelope matching the work envelope specification.
- Sorts "rush" jobs and forwards them to Issue and QC as required.
- Follows the guidelines and proper procedures for the use, treatment, processing and disposal of all chemical solutions associated with the work required.
- Follows safety procedures for appliances at all times.
- Participates in and successfully completes all the training programs and seminars given.
- Performs other related tasks as required by supervisory staff.
Skills:
- Ability to work on a planned basis on a regular basis.
- Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to see well enough to read small papers, with the support of small magnification rings, set gems, re-tip prongs, identify unevenness in shanks and prongs, test the quality of work on small parts or whole pieces of jewelry, and read computer screens.
- Ability to hear and speak well enough to talk to others in person, via telephone and paging system
- Ability to move around the store from department to department, get behind narrow shelves, and bend down or reach into drawers / shelfs.
- Dexterity to write in small print, to hold on to and use all jeweler's devices, to handle small jewelry / gift items while repairing, to make repetitive movements with your arms, and to bend over and pick up misplaced materials.
- Stamina stays for more than eight hours and focuses on small, detailed work.
- Ability to work in a shop setting, i.e. high noise, steamer, tiny dust, etc.
- Power to force and exert pressure while using a number of jeweler devices.
- Ability to work with chemical contamination, low-voltage plating devices, flammable materials, and fast-moving machinery.
- Scale rings, up and down, dealing with all precious metals from Platinum, Gold, White Gold and Silver.
- Simple stone setting and stone tightening.
- Welding knowledge and ability to work with all forms of metal and welding flow temperatures.
