Job Summary:
Aircraft Worker conducts aircraft repairs on higher-grade orders, assists in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft construction, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneumatic, engine, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems, removes, cleans, re installs and fixes defective parts, hardware and components such as broken gaskets, couplings, etc.

Aircraft Worker conducts aircraft repairs on higher-grade orders, assists in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft construction, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneumatic, engine, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems, removes, cleans, re installs and fixes defective parts, hardware and components such as broken gaskets, couplings, etc.
Responsibilities:
- The role is qualified to perform minor maintenance and repair of assigned aircraft under minimal supervision.
- Performs all maintenance, assists in the ground handling and cleaning of the assigned aircraft.
- Aid the aircrew plan for the flight.
- Launches and repairs the plane.
- Performs pre-flight and thru-flight inspections, however, will not be eligible for basic post-flight operations (BPOs).
- After the job is trained, removes and installs aircraft panels and components.
- Operates ground support equipment and uses hand tools, special tools and fixtures as necessary.
- Practices good housekeeping, tool command, awareness / prevention of FOD, and security at all times.
- Responsible for preparing, documenting, tracking, monitoring and updating aircraft forms, CAMS database and keeping status boards up-to-date for all inspection and maintenance operations.
- Inform supervisors of the current status of all aircraft inspections, parts, specialists, and back-shop repairable items.
- Assist section supervisors and maintenance personnel as needed.
- Participates in pre-dock meetings to discuss upcoming aircraft inspections and maintenance requirements of AF Form 2410, CAMS database and maintenance activities.
- Often, there will be post-dock discussions on the current status of aircraft being sold to the Flightline.
- Be able to perform light repairs, help in the handling of the floor and the cleaning of the allocated aircraft. Be able to remove and install aircraft panels and parts.
- Operates ground support equipment and uses hand tools, special tools and fixtures as needed.
- Practices good housekeeping, tool command, awareness / prevention of FOD, and security at all times.
- Must be able to work day shifts, night shifts, and/or weekend shifts as required.
- Receives CUT and is qualified to perform maintenance tasks related to other classifications.
- High school graduation or equivalent is required.
- Must have at least five (5) years of actual and recent experience, such as vehicle or missile, or related weapon systems, as required; three (3) years required.
- A comprehensive understanding of scientific articles related to weapons systems and vehicles.
- Able to operate in an office, in a flight line and in a shop setting that is reasonably lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to harmful fumes and cuts and bruises due to the use of equipment in the vicinity and the dangers of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in the shop area.
- When performing the duties of this work, the worker is required to stand regularly; use hands to touch, hold, or feel; and talk or hear.
- Frequently, you have to walk; reach with your hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, or work in tiresome and uncomfortable positions.
- It often lifts objects weighing between 15 and 50 pounds and sometimes more than 50 pounds.
- Able to perform in wet and/or humid conditions; elevated, unstable locations; vapors or airborne particles; adverse weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock.
- Able to work in an environment that is normally noisy and dangerous, to challenge non-standard procedures or environmental factors that may cause unmitigated risks, and to provide input to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
- Must have knowledge of the scope and limitation of the different maintenance categories and their application to the contract unit.
- Must know the theory and principles of engine operation; accessories and components; electrical and electronic; pneudraulic; and mechanical principles.
- Knowledge of sheet metal, material properties, fuels and oils.
- Manufacturers must be able to read, interpret and use maintenance manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, data tables and other information to assess the feasibility and method of fixing or replacing malfunctioning or defective parts.
- It must be able to inspect, repair and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to operate a government general-purpose vehicle.
