Responsibilities:
- Cleans and disinfects assigned dog racks and cattery, hand-held racks, bathing area, laundry room, food preparation, outdoor patio areas as assigned, including, but not limited to, the cleaning of animal waste and other body fluids by opening and closing time in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Animal Care Department.
- Handles different cleaning solvents, chemicals, etc. and must comply with all regulations, such as OSHA, EPA, State Health Department, etc.
- Disposes of trash, waste and other disposable materials.
- Performs the tasks assigned on a daily basis on the daily duty sheet.
- Receives, treats and farm animals of different species, including those of uncertain nature, violent, sick and injured pets.
- Visually inspect animals for overall health problems and follow-up, if necessary.
- Feeds and water as prescribed, based on age and size and in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Animal Care Department.
- Ensures and maintains the proper handling of animals throughout the shelter in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Animal Care Department.
- Observe behavioral changes that could suggest illness or injury.
- Bathing animals as allocated or as required in compliance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Animal Care Department.
- Removes cards from the cage as needed.
- Periodically spot cleans the assigned chicks and/or cattery.
- Provides accurate information to the public in a clear, friendly and concise manner in accordance with HSBC policies on a daily, ongoing and as necessary basis.
- Assist new staff and volunteer training in line with HSBC policy on an as-needed basis.
- Acts as the leader of any volunteer assigned to the region.
- Participates in mandatory departmental meetings and training sessions on various topics related to animal husbandry and work.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and wears appropriate safety equipment on a continuous basis.
- Maintains the neatness and cleanliness of all assigned work areas, including bathing areas, in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures of the Animal Care Department or in accordance with the instructions of the supervisor.
- Assist in animal rescue, transport and support the establishment of off-site adoptions as needed.
- Attend the clinic as needed.
- Maintains a professional and polite working attitude.
- Reports any equipment malfunctions and safety and security issues to the Animal Care Management Team.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma required. Some college within an agricultural major is preferred.
- Experience: Previous handling of livestock is helpful, but not required.
