Job Summary:

Operates light, medium and some heavy equipment and light to heavy-duty trucks. Performs a range of professional and semi-qualified roles related to the design, operation and maintenance of projects. Can operate single-axle dump trucks, dual-axle dump trucks with automatic and manual transmissions, loaders, rollers and compactors, tractors, sprayers, sweepers, plows, forklifts, backhoes and related equipment. Checks the state of the machinery and identifies major mechanical problems; conducts minor or emergency repairs, if necessary. Can train less skilled workers in the operation and maintenance of equipment. Carry out manual labor or other duties as required.

Requirements:

Follow client and OSHA safety procedures properly. Attend safety meetings and engage in the health programme.
Operate heavy equipment of varying sizes, including cranes and loaders, etc.
Duties include, but are not limited to: loading of scrap material onto the shredder feed conveyor, pushing the shred pile up, moving material throughout the yard, and/or charging of trucks and railcars, etc.
Perform regular inspections of equipment and report any faults or repairs needed to the supervisor.
Hold the grounds free of debris while upholding safety standards.
If required, operate small equipment such as a forklift or skid steering wheel.
General labor tasks that may include but are not limited to sweeping, shoveling and general cleaning of any area and/or equipment throughout the yard.
Communicate effectively via radio with teammates for traffic planning, development and safety procedures.
Willing to cross-train in other roles and to assist other workers if needed.
Certain tasks given to you by your manager.

Qualifications:

Ability to work in a fast-paced, non-stop atmosphere while providing excellent customer service.
Minimum of 3 years of previous heavy equipment activity in manufacturing settings, ideally in scrap metal or building industries.
Knowledge of operating standards, risks and safety precautions, as well as mechanical strength of heavy equipment.
Ability to understand and obey written and oral orders.
Ability to respond to frequent changes in priority and to complete work tasks safely and effectively without constant supervision.
Capacity to fulfill the plan of attendance with quality and continuity.
Flexible for working overtime, off-hours, weekends and holidays in the industrial sector.
