Job Summary:
Programs are responsible for developing and managing research programs for major technical investigations in the field of ballistics and explosive event research and development, armoring and applied programmatic research for the Department of State. Focused on the design and testing of new armor systems that offer alternatives for lighter weight and performance improvement compared to currently approved materials for both opaque and transparent systems.
Responsibilities:
Programs are responsible for developing and managing research programs for major technical investigations in the field of ballistics and explosive event research and development, armoring and applied programmatic research for the Department of State. Focused on the design and testing of new armor systems that offer alternatives for lighter weight and performance improvement compared to currently approved materials for both opaque and transparent systems.
Responsibilities:
- Lead talent management, workforce planning and recruitment
- Establish and lead all recruitment and hiring processes necessary to recruit top talent teams and lead training and development initiatives
- Maintain employee relationships and a people-focused culture that drives business outcomes
- Proactively assesses gaps between business needs and people's capabilities and drives appropriate action.
- Provide support for employee retention, policy implementation and employment legislation
- Manage attendance, vacation policy and leave of absence
- Build and operate projects for major technical investigations in the fields of ballistics and explosive incident research and development, armoring, metallurgical engineering, ceramic materials, material processing, heat treatment and applied programmatic analysis.
- Build and maintain systems for the investigation of vehicle modifications to increase the payload of vehicles for the purpose of obtaining additional armor weight.
- Focus on increased payload, improved braking and improved power output to ensure the proper handling and response of the vehicle needed to run the vehicle and avoid maneuvers.
- Build and implement research programs to test armor systems built into vehicle platforms.
- Emphasis placed on proper welding, bonding, fastening of the armor to the vehicles.
- Validate correct over-lapping for security interfaces such as glass and windows.
- Validate structural integrity for blasting safety and incorporation of lightweight composite systems.
- Mobility testing facilities focused on ballistics and blast testing in conjunction with test laboratories and live-fire test sites.
- Technical responsibility for the areas of ballistics and explosive event research, development, armoring, event modeling, sub-structural analysis for vehicle integration
- Technical responsibility for the areas of automotive upgrades for suspension, chassis, wheels, tires, brakes and vehicle platforms
- Project ownership obligations for major technical projects, including but not limited to planning the project course, monitoring project costs, interacting, managing information and informing the results management group.
- Focus on new innovations that significantly improve efficiency (disruptive innovation), develop current state-of - the-art (evolutionary innovation) and direct process engineers in the implementation of technology in the development of new products.
- Minimum of 2 years experience (Preferred) Excellent communication skills and ability to work with people at all levels
- Organized, hard-working and motivated.
- Preferences given to B.S. Material science and chemical engineering from an accredited university specialized in chemistry, chemical reactions, ceramics and metallurgy is a plus.
- Preferences given to B.S. In Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with experience working for a major automotive OEM or Tier-1 OEM supplier with history design of suspension and electronic control systems.
- Secret Clearance B.S. Degree in Engineering, Physics or Materials Science from an accredited university.
- 5 + years of experience as an engineer and learned all necessary technological and analytical tools.
