Job Summary:
Atmospheric scientist works on issues related to air movement, transport and diffusion in the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center (NARAC) (http:/narac.llnl.gov), a national emergency management support and resource center and hazardous atmospheric release study. You will be part of the Atmospheric Stream, Transport and Risk Assessment Team within the Atmospheric, Earth and Energy Division (AEED).
This vacancy will be filled either at the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional tasks (described below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Requirements:
- Build atmospheric transport calculations quickly and precisely using the NARAC modeling software and provide solutions to problems of moderate complexity.
- Implement Climate Research and Forecast (WRF) models for an operating center.
- Guidance and daily, routine scientific support to and for NARAC users.
- Personalized real-time weather forecasts and historical weather reports with the WRF template.
- Serve on a monthly on-call rotation group at the NARAC Operations Center.
- Develop and report standard operating procedures for the operations team.
- Perform certain tasks as assigned.
- SES.3 Level: Provide solutions to complex problems involving in-depth analysis and the imaginative use of existing and/or inventive methods.
- Propose and hold high-level presentations with senior leadership and government sponsors.
- Propose and carry out large studies to support programmatic objectives.
Qualifications:
- MS in meteorology, atmospheric science, environmental engineering or closely related areas, or an equivalent combination of training and related experience.
- Knowledge of synoptic and mesoscale meteorology and numerical weather forecasting.
- Experience in assembling, configuring and running a Mesoscale Meteorological System, such as WRF, and analyzing tests.
- Experience with usable atmospheric re-analysis and observational data services.
- Familiarity with atmospheric processes such as boundary instability, convection and wet and dry deposition.
